"There is no excuse to dress bad at any size"

Quality vs Quantity

We often strive to have this elaborate  fantastic wardrobe full of limitless styling options and amazing pieces, however what we tend to do is fill up our closets with cheaper clothes (since we can not all afford YSL and Chanel) with less style that are just wasting space!

Every season I would recommend really looking through your closet and purging the pieces that have not seen sunlight in a year. After you do so it is time to refill but with key “Investment Pieces”. These are the pieces you save up for verses buying the knock off. You do so because they will be worn extensively with multiple options thus expanding your wardrobe!

Even if it is just a tank, no need to buy ten from the juniors department every two months when you can get some better quality ones for twice the price that will last you a year.

Next time you go shopping and want to come home with bags and bags of items pause and think, what few amazing versatile pieces do I really need to  INVEST in for LONGEVITY,,,,

“But this one is on sale…..”

Happy Holidays!!!

So during the holiday shopping season you will be faced with lots of self-purchase temptation, and its okay, indulge! The best of the season is out now so might as well jump in and complete the wardrobe!

You will be faced with an equal amount of discount buys. Shop smart not hard. Find pieces that truly fit and flatter no matter what! Make sure that you keep the integrity of an outfit. There are some places you can cut corners, but invest in core pieces that you will have longer than replenishment pieces.

A perfectly tailored coat that fits your needs and body should be purchased either on sale or full price. It is nice to find deals on items you love but for necessities it might be better to save up for a few weeks than settle for a less than flattering piece.

Complete the look, find some trendy pieces on sale and happy shopping!!!

“Just because it comes in your size….”

This phrase is one that I have used with women of all shapes, sizes and ages. There is a constant battle of women who are going through middle age to want to dress younger than their teenage daughter, or women who are a size 22 to want to wear that bandage dress that is all the rage. Women, let us pay attention to items that are figure flattering and contemporary.

Contemporary has truly been my favorite word this year and will be for the next year as well. It really explains what we are all trying to do when it comes to style; be up to date, not wear pieces that age us or make us look bigger and keep some sex-appeal when necessary.

Yes, certain companies have seen the need for full-figured women to want to be in style and trendy and fashion-forward, but that does not mean that the halter top from Escada will translate well in a size 26, yet a knock off was manufactured (with the cut off shorts to go with it) and the young ladies went crazy! Oh my!

As women age and try to stay fit and healthy to keep up with the younger generation they can tend to forget that they are not 23 anymore but 53. Even though they are in the same size they were then, they need to adapt their style. One can be fashionable, fashion-forward and most of all contemporary without wearing the super tight mini pencil skirt and off the shoulder “The Ramones” t-shirt.

Learning how to tweak trends and styles to fit you and your body is the key! See what others are wearing in your size or age group and experiment till it feels just right. So, just because it comes in your size, does not mean you should wear it!!!”

“Do I need all three of these?”

When building a fun and functional closet there are some basics that are much needed for everyday life! No matter your age, demographic or job, these basics cann pull you through life. Now, I will start with the bottom basics meaning pants!

I am a strong believer that you can rule the world in a black pant! This is why I feel that at least three styles can pull you through:

1. A basic black slack : this can be a straight leg or slight boot cut. Something to dress up a blouse or wear to work (where fitting). You can take this pant to a funeral or straight to the rehearsal dinner of your friends wedding with a silk wrap top and pumps. (ex. Lafayette Men’s wear pant)

2. The wide- leg :. A wide leg looks amazing on most women. Many can pull off the look and do not even know it. This style is your ode to the fashion forward women in the aviator era. It is your go-to pant for an updated Woodstock revival. It is the pant you pull out with the crisp white blouse and the statement belt and shoe. This pant is figure flattering on most and for those ladies slightly vertically challenged pair it with the highest platform heel you can find and reduce the flare!

“Can I fit that?”

The age old question of size has plagued women for centuries. The number or letter or word on the tag has dictated how we feel about ourselves for way too long!

Fit first! Regardless of the number, if the item fits then it is a go! Many women of the “plus” division, as myself, feel limited in their fashion options. I am here to prove you wrong and open the world of designer to you one smashing piece at a time!

So ladies, get your credit cards paid off and balance your check books, its a new era and I am your guide!!!
